Sonatrach to take full ownership of all refineries on Algerian soil
GHARDAIA (Algeria)- Sonatrach will take full ownership of all the refineries located in the Algerian territory, CEO of Group Abdelhamid Zerguine declared Wednesday in Ghardaïa (500 km south of Algiers).
Speaking after a working visit to the region to inspect the choice of the site to shelter the new refinery of Ghardaïa, CEO of Sonatrach announced that the creation of five new refineries in Algeria is imposed by the upward trend of the national needs.
“We need double our national production to meet, permanently and in the best conditions, the growing demand of both the population and the economic sectors,” he stressed.
Sonatrach chief urged the project managers to choice the best site, taking into account easements; namely proximity with road and railway to connect Ghardaïa to the different localities and southern provinces, and the mobilization of water by drilling.
The refinery project of Ghardaia, with a capacity of five (5) million tons / year, described by Zerguine as strategic, covers an area of 483 hectares and will generate approximately 800 permanent jobs.
